It is a solemn memory today. The silence in the present is similar to the moments in the years that would follow. On a sand covered route traveling along war's destination, everything changed. This day, 11 years ago, I opened my eyes to another day. Before the day would end, my life would start all over again.
Every year on this day, I attempt this speech. This year, I will keep it simple. That morning, 11 years ago today, I felt an indescribable presence. Some experiences we only need to encounter once to know we will be holding on to them forever. The interruption of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), on Feb. 09, 2005, cemented my conviction in what I believe.
There is neither war nor quiet moment that encompass me. My comforter and protector is what I believe. The presence of God, 11 years ago today, forever changed me. I am blessed to be here, for, Today is Tomorrow. Rest easy...SGT Jessica Housby 09FEB05
